An Army of Lovers Can be Beaten
NICK JEFFREY
Nick Jeffrey seeks to discover meaning in the process of painting and communicate it through the medium of paint. In the accretive development of each of these works, their progressive accumulation of interactive colours, shapes, curves and textures, there emerges a heterogeneous whole. These are paintings of reconciliation, within which are contained a vast spectrum of conflicting elements. Each canvas serves not as the realisation of an isolated emotion or impression, but rather as a field within which are collected the infinity of collected sensations which constitute our fraught psychological existences.
There is in Nick Jeffrey's work a conflict between body and soul, perceptible and abstract, which manifests itself in the physicality of his technique. The marks on the canvas, sometimes whimsical, sometimes tortured, do not seek to create coherence through homogeneity but rather strive towards completion by means of unfiltered inclusivity. These are landscapes of the mind.
