NATHAN CASH DAVIDSON
110 New Bond Street
An exhibition of short films from Nathan’s Youtube channel.
Nathan has been making videos, writing poems and performing as a quickfire rapper for as long as he has been painting. This show is the first to provide an insight into these parallel channels of his creative output.
The video clips are at once dramatic, confusing, and chaotic. Using samples from existing videos and editing experimentally with simple software, Nathan produces clips in which he treats this footage as a malleable form. He processes and reworks the source material and then re-uploads it to Youtube. The result is a frenzied mashup in which the familiar becomes strange - looped footage from the film Adulthood is played out to a soundtrack lifted from Disney’s Peter Pan. There is another layer to these videos that Nathan works with instinctively, one which deals with what makes us uncomfortable, the sexual and the violent.
The gallery is currently supporting a collaboration between Nathan Cash Davidson and Thomas Bush to produce a publication containing some of Nathan's source material and poems. As well as being a beautiful document the aim of this new work is to reveal the linkage between how Nathan paints, collects, writes and performs in the hope that these distinctions become blurred, allowing a more fundamental understanding of his work.
