T R A I L S
T R A I L S was made on Shona, an island off the North West coast of Scotland. Nick Jeffrey worked there for the summer of 2009, painting, walking and tracking deer across the island to the sea and back again.
The film captures the condition of the days, geography of the island and details of the landscape. The 17-minute film is made up of four or five films. Each three-minute sequence is an experiment to move beyond specific moods or atmospheres - abstract in parts, or ephemeral like thinned down paint. The group of films was developed together and remains unedited.
This is the beginning of Nick Jeffrey’s work with Super 8. He is attracted to the medium for its defects and surprise effects, timeless quality and technical obsolescence.
